Five Things Friday July 26, 2024

Missed last week, but my deep fan base really likes these posts, so here we are, with Five Silly Nothings.

One:   I love this retro future picture of phones with talking screens. Not quite as elegant as a cell phone, but sort of charming.

Two:  As happens, I’m trying to drop a few pounds, but I’m also craving cake. Luckily I have a number of recipes I’ve collected for six inch cakes. So…one sitting? Not a bad thing.

Three:  My mom used to get in a snit, and take out her anger doing house cleaning or taking walls down or putting them up. I personally dust or vacuum or move furniture around. It’s also a good time to toss things that have been piling up.  Use The Force, Luke.

Four: As long as you’re tidying up, perhaps you should refine your cleaning schedule?

Five:  This makes sense only to a Star Trek fan, but it is my favorite version of this scene meme I’ve come across.

Five Things Friday July 12, 2024

Here we are with your weekly dose of the nonsensical.

One: Dog Toy Repair

So. Dog toys. The Puppy loves soft toys but has developed a fine sense of just where the seams are in soft toys. Riiip!

I tried sewing one of these toys up with a needle and thread. I’ve repaired all sorts of clothing items this way. With mostly tidy stitches. Puppy pulled the thread right out.

How about using stronger thread, I thought, upholstery thread. Nice and strong. I used to have a sewing needle set that had a curved needle that worked on tougher fabrics.

I ordered this kit:

As it turns out, the fabric the pup tears through so easily is tough as anything, and I struggled to push a needle through it. Thank heavens for the thimble in this kit.

How about this kit instead, with super strong thread (tastes awful when you do that wetting down thing to get the thread through the needle) and curved needles? This worked much better, but I still needed the thimble.

My days of tidy stitching are either over, or it’s just that the job is a tough one. Puppy has not ripped these back open, though.

Two: Measuring Up

We’ve been measuring our dogs for new collars and harnesses lately. Nothing works better for this than a cloth measuring tape. Somehow, Mr. DOA became attached to my original one, and was reluctant to even let me borrow it ( he will deny it). I got my own nice pastel set, needer.

Three: Cute in the Kitchen

Could I be craftier, you ask? Why no. I’m going to work on my non existent sewing skills by attempting to make these:

Four: On A More Summery Note

Whatever happened to Hire’s Root Beer? With three 90+ degree days incoming, wouldn’t it be nice in a root beer float?

Five: Happy Halloween!

Here we go, pretend it’s fall and the weather is cool, with Halloween just around the corner.

Five Things Friday July 5, 2024

 Friday Follies time again!

1.  It Reeks If It Don’t Squeak!

For the first time, we have a dog who loves to play. Tug of war and fetch are favorites. On her own, she loves to Chew, Rend, and Tear. Though she loves soft plushies, she’s able to quickly locate their weak spots and riiip! Everything must SQUEAK. Here she is with a plushie who seemed tough except for its thin feet which went by the wayside pretty quickly.

2. The latest garden pests are SPIDERS. They are webbing their way around everything. Eek they had the water faucet webbed in. Anywhere you look in the garden you can see a thin strand in the air. Blah, blah, yes they are snaring OTHER THINGS that I don’t want to see or know about. The webs in pots didn’t photograph well so here you are, a couple of innocent objects encased.

3. On a nicer garden note, here are pictures from the garden this evening.

4. Lost Rewatch

A night or so ago I was restless and combing Netflix for something to watch. For some reason watching the pilot episode appealed. I’m on about episode 8 now and it’s just fantastic to watch again, as I remember so little of the plot and characters. It was almost like the first time all over again. Great acting, thrilling plotting, mysteries galore.

Mr DOA remembered much more about the story and characters when I talked with him about it. Perfect summer evening fare.

5. Zoomy Trikes

For some reason a couple of different motorized trikes popped up for me this week. They’re really cute, super pricey, and where the heck do you put your feet?
