Lanterns ep 7  The Jordan Boys Legacy   (HBO Max)

This was my favorite episode so far.  We get Hal's background, wherein depression affects the Jordan males historically, and it's something Hal has fought as well.  We get this via flashback, but also, the Hal Jordan hologram seems to have more juice to keep running than is stated. 

 

The Halogram as I see him called, is way more forthright than real Hal.  He pulls no punches.  Interestingly when he finds out about Hal's romance with the sheriff, he insists on meeting her.  She's able to confirm Hal wanted John to succeed, but he just kept letting Hal down.  He kept hoping though.  This is a revelation to John.  It's a revelation to the Halogram that Hal left John behind the wheel of an uncontrolled vehicle twice to die, and Hal never taught John to fly, or anything else.

 

Together they break into Hal's locked vault, finding a portable portal to another planet that they go to explore together.  It turns out to be Anton's home planet, every person dead, having been driven mad by a gas that led them to kill each other and themselves. Hal pulls John from certain madness and death. Between them they make it to a small island with a beacon. Inside, they're attacked by a man that turns out to be Sinestro.

Doc E1 S3   Wherefore Art Thou   (Fox)

 

Amy and Sonja begin training new interns as co-leads.  A group of kids from a high school play begin showing signs of seizures, as does the drama coach.  The combination of interns in tricky situations and Amy and Sonja being responsible for training lead to tense moments for all. 

Amy has memory flashbacks of the day of her accident, and how she treated everyone, particularly Sonja.  While her brain appears to be healing, it is also overloading with memories that she can’t be distracted by during work.

New incoming surgeon Ben Grant is being given anything he wants in order to make the hospital shine.  He is dismissive of the current head surgeon, and remembers his short time with Amy well, bringing more than just medical expertise to his new role in the hospital.

I’m liking the new Amy who is trying to do what her mentor Joan asked, that she turn to a life of service to share her gifts.  

 

Star Trek Strange New Worlds S4 Ep 10 Tomorrow’s Enterprise   (Paramount)

 

 

 At a strange concurrence of a black hole and a white hole back to back, the Enterprise is trapped.  They’re trying to find a way to get out of the area, and are considering firing upon some objects they see ahead of them.  Uhura picks up an odd communication ahead of the explosive result of the Enterprise’s attack.  When she has some time to listen more closely, she hears her own voice warning Scotty.   Further attempts to decode the message puts her in contact with herself, one year in the future.

Kirk captains the Enterprise, Pike is an admiral, Scotty is dead.   Uhura works with her future self to save Scotty, resulting in time travel with possible consequences, but they won’t stop until they figure out how to save him.

It was fun to see future Uhura and nurse Chapel (bouffant hair in place, and Uhura has TOS Uhura’s style) just a bit different than their current selves.  I think Paul Wesley’s Kirk is well done, but as always I don’t like him stealing time from Pike, who is the best of all captains, in my opinion.

Next season is the last. Filmed, and everyone has moved on.  Only six episodes in the final season.

I keep thinking it’s 60 years of Star Trek and every Star Trek show will be gone by next year.  Some celebration of a unique anniversary!

 

 

 

The Great British Baking Show (Netflix) 

 

Cake Week!   The show is back on Fridays on Netflix.  Cake week is my favorite, because I love cake.   The technical challenge seemed a bit more cruel than usual, as there was no recipe, just a picture of what the cake should look like.  Everyone knows a recipe for Walnut and Coffee Cake by heart, right?

 

 As usual these are the nicest people on the earth competing for star baker and beyond.  I don't know how they do it, but every person just is warm and fuzzy.
