Fallout S2Ep.2. Profligate
Profligate is what the woman Lucy rescued last week called her. This week, the woman’s head is summarily sliced from her neck and is on a pike before you know it.
Lucy is my favorite character in the show. She’s unfailingly polite, positive, and if you recall her season one introduction, she has a wide range of survival skills. She’s fearless.
As a former history teacher, she is able to call out the Faction who has captured her on the inaccuracies in their organization as it attempts to bring the Roman Legion to America. They’re not appreciative of her knowledge, though, and she’s hung on a cross next to a man who is attracting crows.
The Brotherhood under Quintus is failing in its revolution once Paladin Xander of the Commonwealth shows up. Maximus, listening to them, asks why they don’t just kill him. “Isn’t that what we do?” Apparently Quintus doesn’t welcome advice from his brainless “sword”, so he boots him from the council chambers.
Waiting like a spider outside is bromeister von bro Xander. He takes Maximus off on a bonding junket, just two guys in power armor straightening out the Wasteland. They detect a robot, which the Brotherhood are apparently sworn to wipe out. Xander and Maximus have a great time taking that robot down. Using Xander’s Rocket Hammer, Maximus delivers the deadly blow and is feeling like Xander’s life in the Brotherhood might be the one he is looking for.
Their next stop is a bottle factory. By chance, Maximus’ old friend Thaddeus, now a ghoul, is getting little kids to pull the valuable Caps off of bottles of sarsaparilla. Xander sweet talks all the kids to come out of hiding. He then tells the kids who are showing ghoul traits to step to one side and the smooth faced kids to step to the other side. Fearfully they obey, while Maximus cries out to Xander that they’re just children, don’t do this. They’re abominations, says Xander, powering his weapon. Maximus, still holding the Rocket Hammer, brings it down on Xander’s head, killing him instantly.
What are Maximus’ options now? He can’t go back to his base after killing the representative of the Commonwealth. My guess is he may and should go look for Lucy at Vault 33. She’s not there, of course, but I’d love to see what his reception is. He could even meet Norm and Bud’s Buds, and they could somehow make their way to New Vegas to find Lucy and Hank. Wow would Hank be able to take over all those eager Buds from Norm? Lots of possibilities.
Meanwhile, the Ghoul is back at the radscorpion nest cutting a poisonous/radioactive chunk out of his leg to get rid of it so he can heal. Out of his normal character, he’s talking to Dogmeat while he works, and he even puts a hand up to caress the dogs face. He apologies, saying he hasn’t had anyone worth talking to in a very long time. Is he just talking about Dogmeat or is he thinking of Lucy?
Back on his feet, he finds the Legion encampment with Lucy hanging in the sun. It’s a larger group than he can take alone, so he seeks out the NCR Rangers to help. Unfortunately there are only two of them left guarding their “front”.
There’s a Cooper flashback section which continues the efforts to convince Cooper to kill Robert House. House is way ahead of those guys, as he lurks in the VFW bathroom and quizzes Cooper about being a Pinko. Apparently there’s the public figure House we saw in season one planning Vaults, and the real House who scoots around doing the real work. Something like that.
The Ghoul comes up with a plan. He walks into the Legion camp like he owns the place and offers to give up the location of the NCR holdouts in exchange for Lucy. He gets her down and supports her walking out of the camp. On the hill above the camp,Lucy and the Ghoul see there are explosions and fights break out.
It’s hard to imagine what Lucy is thinking, but she thanks the Ghoul for saving her.
There really is so much in every episode.
Stranger Things Finale
I’m not sure what to say about this one. It was epic. Huge battles everyone got to fight in. Joyce gets to decapitate Vecna. I enjoyed it all. My focus watching was that they didn’t kill or abandon Eleven, because those were her only options. I also didn’t want anyone to die, not even Kali who had a change of heart, and who wasn’t saved as she should have been.
I loved Dustin’s graduation speech. Perfect valedictorian.
I appreciated the look at the future of everyone. I liked all of Mike’s scenarios except Elevens. Because Eleven and Mike should be together no matter what. Then again the Duffers are being all cagey about whether she’s alive at all. That just seems cheap.
