Librariandoa's Saturday Puzzles: An Answer Key for the January 10, 2026 Rebus (Apologies!)

Here's the answer to last week's rebus in case you missed a word or two.  This first line is from The Plague Court Murders by John Dickson Carr.

Apologies! for the first time ever I trimmed the last line of symbols from the puzzle.  Mr. DOA discovered the problem and figured out why he couldn't get the last word.

Old Merrivale, that astute and garrulous lump who sits with his feet on the desk at the War Office, has been growling again for somebody to write the story of the Plague Court murders; chiefly, it is believed, to glorify himself.
