DOA in the Garden: Not Garden Bloom Day & Nothin' in Bloom

I missed Garden Bloggers Bloom Day yesterday, so caught up was I in my Pea Revolution.

 

My mind was also snarkily happy not to be working at a library on steenkin' Tax Day and dealing with all the desperate souls who needed just one more form.  Needer needer Bad Tax People. Hehehe.

It has been windy and dry so I hooked up the sprinkler on the east side and let it run. Our even/odd watering ban begins on May 15 and I would like to get things off to a good start before then.  I could almost see things greening up before my eyes as grass and plants got a nice soaking.

I continued to work to get all of the ornamental stuff and my greenhouses out into the garden.  In another month this will look really pretty so compare and contrast, and don't judge or say Junkyard Dog!

I captured the leafiness of a few things which are coming up.  I can't really bend to get a good angle for pictures (knees from Hades) so a couple are too close.  But think positively!  Life is returning.

This heuchera doesn't need any flowers to be beautiful.

The Winds of Springtime

Despite storms last evening, today was bright and sunny and dry.

I overwintered some perennials in their pots and put them outside yesterday afternoon in the hopes that predicted rains would water them for me.

Everything was disappointingly dry this morning.  On my to do list for the past week has been pulling out my water barel with my hoses nicely coiled inside.

Finally it is out and I filled a couple of watering cans and gave them some much needed water.  

Doing very nicely in its pot is lovely Dicentra Valentine.  I'll make sure it gets a place in the garden soon.

I bought some fingerling potato seedlings over the weekend.

Two varieties, those pictured and some Rose Fin Apple I.

I had a bed picked out for them but while reading the label it said not to plant where tomatoes, peppers and eggplants were the year before.  That particular bed was all tomatoes last season.

The other longer bed will be my potato bed.  I had not cleared this one well in the fall, hoping to see some few root vegetables come to late fruition.

Amazingly, a few parsnips made it through the winter.  I've never eaten a parsnip, but they look fine.

Thursday's "dusting" turned out to be six inches of heavy snow for us.

Gale force winds again today, but the snow is receding and the temperature may reach 67!!!

So we begin gardening season again....

As Prince once said "Sometimes it snows in April".   Last year it snowed in May!  The Horror!
I am reminded that I missed Garden Bloggers Bloom Day yesterday but I do actually have a few crocus boldly flowering.  Despite the very Cold and Windy (!!!) weather this week, the garden moves toward spring.

I'll trot outside before the flakes fall and we shall have signs of life, I say life!

Good grief, Charlie Brown.   I went right out into the beginnings of steenkin' snow!  Nasty snow.  Despite my coo cooing about it just being moisture the other day, it is in truth unwelcome!  Bad, bad snow.  Woof.

Looking forward, this east facing area is marked out for new raised beds coming this very weekend, perhaps.   It's the sort of thing I can ask for as a combined Easter/Mother's Day gift.   Clever me.  Good timing on those holidays.  ^-^

The dogs enjoy being outdoors no matter the weather.  It was so hard this winter when there were days cold enough that they could freeze solid before 5 minutes were up.  That isn't nearly enough time to check things out if you're a beagle.

My Baptista appears upright and unharmed.  My sweet husband brought out my swing :)

Raised beds in the veggie garden are visible.

Most of my arborvitae have recovered from the crushing snowfall.  You see how many pots and things didn't get taken in last fall.  This year it will be perfectly done.

Tomorrow is my first full gardening day of the season.  I'm going to work on the inner yard these first two days and outside the fence Saturday/Sunday.  There's a plan, man.
