DOA Central Gets An AI Overview

 Well, well.  “…If you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will gaze also into you.”  That’s how I always think of AI, and I was going to say I have never used AI. Except! I often browse the AI Overview that is now at the top of most search results using Google. If it looks like I’ve got the right topic, I click on other page results for more information.

The abyss has taken notice.

Let’s fact check, now. Three public library systems, about 38 years as a public librarian. Yup. 

I’ve written quite a bit lately about books, because I’ve been reading a lot.  I just keep finding great new books and authors.  The blog has been up since 2008 though, and I sometimes think of it as my “kitchen sink” blog for its variety.  Nice shout out to the glorious Tad Williams, though.

Blogvember 2025 @ DOA

 

As happens at this time of year, I'm looking at my post count to see if I am at or near the desirable goal of 100 posts.  This number seemed appealing years ago, and I still like it.

This year, I somehow had 50 posts by the second week of March, when I simply shut down.  Clearly I'm creaking the door back open, and have the ambitious plan to get my 100 posts in by December 31st, 2025.

I can do it!  I used to find plenty of inspiration on Facebook, but I've only peeked in there a couple of times recently to check on a furniture store which replenishes its inventory weekly, and which often has really fun, ornate older pieces that need a bit of work.  I'm looking for glass fronted bookcases, and I have a seemingly endless desire to find small unique side tables or little stands for display.

Keep your fingers crossed as I wrack my brain for post material.

I'm looking at crafts, books, gardening, TV,  cooking, baking and likely some puzzles I create.  Memes and cartoons aren't out of the question.  A post is a post is a post.

2018 Goals: Blogging

I think I was right in November to look back at my early blogging efforts for inspiration.   In nearly ten years, I've tried all sorts of things.

This blog will always be a kitchen sink blog topically.  You can tell by my goals for 2018 that I'm here, there and everywhere.   Inside my head is almost always a good place to be.  When it isn't, I don't write!

I'll continue many of the topics I used in November, and am going to use Publisher to make month by month calendars for myself with post ideas.

I'm not going to post daily, but several times a week is a goal.

More of my creative efforts in all areas await.

Gardening season starts in December when those catalogs start coming in.  I liked noting what I've gotten so far, and I've requested a few more, so we shall see.   Hopefully soon enough pictures of tiny new seedlings under lights will be here.

Farewell, November

I've decided not to make this last day WIP Wednesday after all.  I think I've shown the most interesting projects, and as I hoped, I've made actual progress completing them.  I have high hopes for the entire waiting-for-its-turn collection of items.  I'll certainly put any completed items up, so you can say "whoa, she actually finished something".

I have an actual post for every day of the month, which was a goal.  My next blogging goal is to have 100 posts for the year.  If you look on the sidebar way way down you can see how many posts I have had each year. Pretty puny!  I think 100 posts over the course of a year should be a reasonable thing, particularly since I have so many things I can write about.

I also plan to give some attention again to my book blog and games blogs, which I also enjoy writing for.  So more of me, blah blah blah.

 For December I have in draft a favorite Christmas movies post, a compilation of some of the Christmas crafts I've seen on blogs, and a favorite Star Trek Episodes post that didn't make it into the November mix.

More TV and movie posts incoming, and I have the plot and basic draft of the next Casefiles of Detective Open-Shut.  Exciting stuff!

Posts Incoming

While I haven't been writing posts, I've been pondering them.  Thinking DEEPLY.

 Actually, I'm going to dredge up posts from my notebooks. I could temporarily rename the blog From the Notebooks Of... but I like it as it is.

See my post count go up and my readership go kablooie.  This counts as one.

This Blog Needs Something...

I looked over my blog last night and realized I have hardly posted in 2014 or 2015 at all.  I feel like I have been posting but 53 posts in 2014 and 66 posts in 2015 so far...tsk slug doggie!  My game blog has 108 posts so far this year.  It isn't that I'm playing more, I think perhaps because it is focused on a particular topic it is just easier.

 

My blog also appears to have become a gardening blog. Even this winter that was the most common post topic.  It isn't even what I send most of my time doing, it just has lovely pictures that can be posted along with my deep deep thoughts is my guess.

Although I've gotten out of my reading slump and have been readings lots of good things I could recommend, I follow so many authors on Facebook who find reviews of their books and are either very pleased or they are crushed that they got a poor or middling review or a dread single star.

Giving out stars is just something I can't bring myself to do.  I have never been a fan of doing book reports so I can't write those big whopper reviews that are half the length of the book.

In my last post, I think I may have hit upon a way I can share what I read without any judgement being made. Just the ever ideal, hey, this is a great book.

Watch This Space  for actual posts, mini-posts, pseudo-posts as I try to get that post count up.

Happy Fifth Blogiversary to the D.O.A. Blog!

Five years ago today I posted my first DOA post right here.

Adorably brief, yet witty.  That would be me!   I found a nice little skellie reading a book for my avatar.

Then I used one of the many image editing sites from 23 Things On a Stick to make it my own.

I'm glad that I kept writing here after the 23 Things program ended.  I'm surprised how much I've enjoyed it.

10,000

Ha ha, the Blogger from the Land of 10,000 Lakes and a variety of puddles (really alot of rain this week) has finally reached 10,000 views on my site meter. Since this is the second or so meter, and the first one just stopped counting, I say it is legit, and ta da. That is all.

No post a day for me!
