Cooking and Baking Blogs

I've updated the Cooking and Baking blog section of my sidebar with new blogs!  Just as we all snuggle inside for the winter, the desire to cook and bake becomes overpowering!  The warmth from the oven, the smells, the lovely new flavors.   These are some favorites of mine which I never got onto my blogroll, but here they are. I've moved the Cooking and baking category to the top so you can start cooking.

A Few More Craft Blogs For You

I keep finding all of these charming blogs with beautifully crafted things.

From the Little Treasures Blog, a sweet Crochet Heart

http://thelittletreasures.blogspot.com/2015/02/crochet-heart-free-pattern.html

I'm able to follow her instructions (in my mind) till the rows one and two.  When she talks about a "picot round" yikes.  Crochet patterns and their terminology are still largely mysterious to me.

I love the colors used by the Made with Loops blogger  http://madewithloops.co.uk/?p=2851

At Hopeful Honey, a beautiful scarf.  I like the way she learns new stitches then creates a pattern to use that stitch.  Very creative and lovely.   http://www.hopefulhoney.com/2015/01/chunky-popcorn-scarf-crochet-pattern.html

Another beautiful scarf at A Creative Being using Tunisian Crochet (over my head but oh so pretty).

Happy Fifth Blogiversary to the D.O.A. Blog!

Five years ago today I posted my first DOA post right here.

Adorably brief, yet witty.  That would be me!   I found a nice little skellie reading a book for my avatar.

Then I used one of the many image editing sites from 23 Things On a Stick to make it my own.

I'm glad that I kept writing here after the 23 Things program ended.  I'm surprised how much I've enjoyed it.

Thanks to anyone who stops by regularly, or even once in awhile, or for the first time.  You're always welcome at DOA Central.

Barnes and Noble SF and Fantasy Blog

There are so many great Science Fiction and Fantasy books coming out this year.  Barnes and Noble has a new blog featuring some of these.  It's nice to get another viewpoint on what upcoming books will be of interest.

Feedly

I thought I'd try Feedly again as a sort of bloggy news aggregator.

I managed to sign up and pick some blogs.  It seems that you can only pick blogs already on their list which is an annoyance.

They also seem to want to guide you towards particular categories, and gardening wasn't one of them.

I'll take a look at the tutorial but it looks as if I would be better served getting my blog roll back in shape.

Bah, Feedly.

Ms. Reorganization

As you may note, I'm re-doing my blog list.

I'm categorizing them as Books, Baking, Gardening and Diversions.  The process is slow going. I am going to try to include the snippets from the book blogs, my largest category.  Sometimes Blogger resents having too many of those on your list and they just don't display them. Tricksy Blogger.

Removing all blogs not updated in over two months.  Except, a few garden blogs that really only write during the Season.  They get to stay for the nonce.  Reassessing some of the choices that I just don't read so poof.   It will be all the more interesting when I'm done.

Note:  I wrote all my blog names in Word then just poofed the blog roll.  I couldn't find some of the blogs, ratski.

Book blogs are in for the nonce.

Edit: Ok, I added a bunch more. I was disappointed to find many favorite authors don't have blogs, or haven't updated them (in a couple of years), or Blogger won't accept their address as a "feed".  Stinkers.

Blogroll Adjustments

I look at my blog every day just to look at my blogroll. I don't know if other people do that, but I truly enjoy the mix of things I have and love to see what is new.  I took a few off that either were never updated, or I just don't read.  I added a few I've been meaning to add for awhile:

writerlywitterlings  by mystery author Michael Jecks.

The MarySue.com  it is supposed to be "girl geek culture" but they have lots of things I'm interested in so voila.

R. L. Lafevers hasn't updated her blog for a bit, but I just love her books so we shall see.

Sharon Creech is a fantastic YA author and she also writes charmingly about the everyday as well.

10/21/13   Added:
Two Peas & Their Pod, a cooking baking blog
Kitchen Confidante a cooking/baking blog
SHOTS Crime and Thriller ezine
Letters of Note: correspondence deserving of a wider audience wonderful letters from famous and not so famous people that have lasting resonance and charm

No use mentioning what is gone because POOFED is poofed.

Birds and Blooms Blog of the Week

I'm always looking for new gardening blogs to read.  I like the ones with lots of pictures (though I find the ones which are protectively watermarked annoying--they just seem needlessly intrusive) and I like people sharing tips and just general "here's how I garden" information.  The more conversational the "voice" of the blog, the better.

I really dislike lots of ads in and around a blog.  It makes it feel like an adware/spyware trap!  Also, if something hasn't been updated in say the last three months I won't add it in.  I think I am finding that there is a limit of 166 blogs you can have on your roll though it isn't officially stated.  That sounds like alot, but if you have varied interests like me, you can just zoom right up to that limit.  If you have blogger, when you go to add a blog note it says how many you currently have.  You may need to snip to make room for more, I certainly did.

I follow Birds and Blooms on Facebook and noted they feature "Blogs We Like" on Fridays.  These are all types of blogs and as I find ones I like I add them to my blogroll.  May you find something to like in their list as well!

Look for their Featured Blog on the left sidebar.

Nancy Carlson's Doodle Blog

There is a fun article in this morning's Star Tribune about childrens author and illustrator Nancy Carlson. Her publisher encouraged her to try some social media type things to keep her name out there and she came up with a visual daily blog with a drawing a day. She is enjoying drawing whatever she fancies (and she is one of the most fanciful illustrators imaginable).

The article reminded me that Nancy Carlson is probably the first author who I ever went out to see at an event. My toddler son and I were huge fans and we went to a library event, so excited that the creator of books we loved was right there in the same room with us. She was funny, wise and charming.

Enjoy her work at www.nancycarlson.com
