DOA On TV The Rookie and Will Trent

It’s been over a week since the finales of Will Trent and The Rookie. I’ve been a bit unhappy with the Rookie this past season and I’m not sure why. I think I liked it more when it was a police procedural, showing the daily life of cops.

Will Trent has piled on the character deaths this season in such a way that I may not return to it when it reappears in January 2027.

The Rookie  The Bandit   Season Finale

The episode revolves (again) around ultra rich and well connected Heath Everett’s cohorts carrying out an elaborate escape involving a car and a helicopter. They carry him off to a secret ship that will take him out of the country.

A team of LAPD’s finest alongside the FBI go in at night before the ship leaves port, and snare Everett back.

Tim and Lucy who led the attack finally get a few moments alone on the beach at sunset, and Tim proposes to Lucy. A well earned sweet moment, but suddenly a smiling couple walks up and stabs each with a syringe, payback from Everett.

I really dislike all powerful villains, who beat your heroes at every juncture.

Will Trent  Be of Service  Season Finale

The main plot of the show was the abduction of a high school student that turned out to be tied to a human trafficking ring that has operated throughout the season. This storyline will apparently continue into season five.

Meanwhile Angie and Seth head to the hospital to deliver the baby. They were always such a great couple and Angie deserved the life she had with Seth. It’s over in a flash as another car rams them on Angie’s side. Angie and the baby are fine, but Seth, on the other side of the car sustains internal injuries though he seems fine initially. Left alone for a moment while Angie is rushed to surgery, Seth collapses and dies alone, sprawled on the floor in the hallway.

There’s a montage of Angie curled in bed for months while Will and Nico and Betty step in to watch over little Edie and get her started in life.

The showrunners are all about re-setting the show and characters, but I am beyond unhappy with how they’ve done it.

DOA On TV May 3, 2026

Most of my shows have had their finales, so this week I only have The Rookie and Will Trent.

The Rookie Dead Ringer

The episode was an odd mix.  A serial killer sought sole custody of his children.  Tim is inadvertently letting everyone in the precinct know he’s looking for a ring for Lucy, providing a fair amount of comedy.   It’s the end of the line for wily as anything Monica, who finally made the wrong deal with the wrong person and she was killed and dumped in a remote spot.

Will Trent      Where’d You Come From Little Angel?

A scientist and his lover are found dead by a construction crew working in their house. Nobody heard any sounds that might indicate a break in and attack.

Will, still reeling from Amanda’s death struggles to put the pieces together, and he’s attacked in the deserted morgue and stuffed in a drawer.  He hallucinates about the case, but is also reunited with the Amanda he met in his teens who offered to help him get his life straightened out.

Sydney Park plays young Amanda.  She has down Amanda’s speech patterns and facial expressions perfectly.  The actress played young Amanda in earlier seasons, but she wasn’t quite so dead on as she is here.  Not that I recall.

While Will loses consciousness and hallucinates, he and young Amanda work the case together, and get to say a final goodbye.

DOA On TV The Rookie, Will Trent, Matlock, Jumanji : Welcome to the Jungle

The Rookie  Out Of Time

Nolan has to protect serial killer Glasser as part of a deal between the long suffering killer and the LAPD.   Tim gets his grandmother’s gaudy purple wedding ring from his mom to propose to Lucy with.  Wesley and former DA Del Monte get a disastrous first case as defense attorneys in their new law practice.  A bit of a filler episode.

Will Trent  Our Last Dance

The department says their goodbyes to Amanda, and Will desperately tries one last time to find his uncle.  Sad of course, but I'm still mad they killed Amanda off.

Matlock    Two Hour Finale Episodes:  Who Are You, and Matty Matlock

In the season two finale, it’s revealed that Senior has been faking his dementia.  Matty, Julian and Olympia try to figure out a way to prove Senior paid to have the Wellbrexa study removed, though he has had it put back in the files.

Never fear, Julian sacrifices himself by getting a bugged confession out of his father, which implicates all of the senior partners.  They are all arrested by episode's end, including Julian and Senior.

Matty and Olympia will be starting their own law firm, and Matty will continue to operate as Matty Matlock rather than under her real name.

The show won’t be on till mid-season next year, as the showrunner wanted more time to get a new mystery set up and to tie up all of the details from this season’s reveals.

Tossed in at the end of the week, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle with Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillian, Jack Black and Kevin Hart as in game avatars of a set of teens who fall into the game while doing detention in the school basement.  Unexpectedly hilarious.  It’s just the sort of funny, feel good movie I needed this week.

DOA On TV 4/19/26 The Rookie, Will Trent, High Potential, The Pitt

The Rookie  Survive the Streets

I don’t mind “documentary” type episodes where everyone is interviewed about an event.  This one however meandered far too much, and felt as if there was no real substance to the events.

Will Trent  The Blank Expanse of Nothing

Will’s attempt to put a tracker on Adelaide to save his uncle results in the death of Amanda, stabbed and left for dead on the street to find.  This one makes me so angry.  I love her character so much and every scene she is in.  To kill her off that way!  This isn’t the finale, and there’s no excuse for her “shocking death”.

High Potential  Family Tree

In the second season finale, a dead body in a hotel unravels things for Karadec and Lucia.  Wagner opts to meet a source alone to find out more about Roman’s disappearance.  He tricks Morgan into coming to the rendezvous at a little later time than the actual meeting, and she finds him on a park bench bleeding out and barely able to breathe.

The Pitt 9 pm

In the second season finale for The Pitt, Robby manages to get in a few words with most of the staff who he should say goodbye to.  The episode ends completely up in the air as far as I’m concerned, with him soothing Baby Jane Doe, and himself.

One of the people he has a word with is Dr Hashimi who has revealed her seizures to him.  He’s completely angry with her for not revealing that to her employers, and tells her she shouldn’t be working in the ER or driving.  It’s a shouting match that ends well for no one.  At the end of the episode, though, she defiantly gets in her car after work to drive home.  She goes a few feet then breaks down crying.  There were two people walking in the parking ramp, and I thought man, she’s going to black out and hit those two.  I’ve watched a few interviews with the actress, though, and it was the thought of picking up her son and driving with him in her current state and the danger of that, that made her stop.

For Robbie, I hope he goes on his sabbatical, but is careful, so he can come back and be in a better state.  Better yet, I want him to adopt Baby Jane Doe, and take the time off to get settled in to being that dad he had always wished to be.  They should let me write this stuff.

DOA on TV April 12, 2026 Paradise, The Rookie, Doc, Best Medicine, Will Trent, Matlock, Sheriff Country, Malcolm In The Middle: Life's Unfair

Shows are wrapping up their seasons left and right.  I'm watching more series on broadcast TV than I have in a long time.  Luckily, in these new streaming days new shows on streaming services will be available all summer, so those of us who are TV Hounds at heart don't have to wait for fall to get new stuff to watch.

Paradise Exodus

The finale brought down the city and the mountain on top of it that hosted the Bunker.  The Bunker was a marvel of technology and life planning.  I'm sorry to see it go.  Now that big convoy and all the residents of the Bunker who escaped are just sitting on nothing but the ruins of civilization.

I felt happy for Xavier's family reunion, but poor Bean just seemed at the periphery of all the hugs and happiness.

The Rookie Tiger Bear

The murder of an English teacher who tutored students on the side is complicated by the fact that no one will admit to calling in the finding of the body.  Nolan's teen fan Dash spends time with his crook of a father.

Doc   The Big Chair

On Michael's first day as chief of internal medicine, chaos ensues as Joan comes in as a patient, causing Miller and Amy to fight over treatment options.  A nurse wants Miller removed for his manipulation of her in previous times, unaware of the deal that has been made to allow Miller to practice at Westside again.

Best Medicine   Norway Nohow

The sister city saga continues with revelations that the ecosystem of Port Wenn will be destroyed by the interlopers from Norway.  The female representative first gives birth while in the middle of a lecture, to an extremely hairy baby who grunts, then a healthy girl she didn't know she was pregnant with several hours later.   Charles actually lies about a high placed friend who will help the town get out of the contract that has been made, saving the day.  The bully who made Charles' childhood miserable was keen on the deal and goes to the Board of Medicine to report Charles and Elaine for illegally allowing her to draw blood because of his phobia.  The season ender saves Port Wenn, but perhaps loses them the doctor they were just getting used to.

Will Trent  A Flag in the Mud

A mother holds the ER hostage until her son gets care where Will, Nico and Angie are waiting for help.  An elevator fight scene for the ages.

Matlock  The Future Is Nigh

A fascinating episode wherein the co-owner of an AI company which produces seemingly alive digital copies of the dead creates a copy of her sister that helps decide who should inherit control of the company, the sister or an unknown to everyone boyfriend.

Sheriff Country  The Finest

I'm behind a week on this show, oops.  A mostly tense episode as the team tries to find out what happened to a school bus full of kids who left the school as usual, then disappeared, leaving the school bus exploding in flames but no sign of the kids.  It's a cross over episode with Fire Country characters, only one of whom was engaging.

Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair Ep 1

All the cast but one is back except for one.  We used to watch this show, but didn't watch it all the way to the end of its run. The previews looked really fun.  As it turned out, it was too frenetic for me to enjoy. I find that I don't like shows where the characters are constantly doing asides, talking directly to the audience.  Malcolm was way hyper.  His father was kind of repulsive.  Malcom's daughter was very over the top.

DOA On TV : The Rookie, Paradise, Will Trent, High Potential, War Machine, School Spirits

The Rookie   Aftermath

Lucy is still traumatized from having had to kill a crazed toxicologist.  Though given desk duty, she defies orders and is out on solo patrol.   She's first on the scene of a dangerous mob hit, but acquits herself well.   Wesley is outmaneuvered by two serial killers and a rival for the District Attorney's office.

Paradise   Jane

Good thing I pre-wrote this on paper so I could excise a few remarks.   I had no curiosity about psychopath Jane Driscoll, an assassin with no redeeming qualities.  I really wish three episodes of an eight episode season had not focused on characters we don't know and care about.  Luckily there was a bit of forward motion for Xavier, as Gary the Mailman ignites the bomb they plan to explode as a distraction early hoping to kill Xavier.  Xavier is stunned by a blast, but gets away, and Teri runs through the crowd towards him.   Jeremy enlists the aid of the architect of the bunker in making an escape.  Presley endangers Sinatra's daughter by luring her into the politics of the bunker.

Will Trent   He Lives

Someone in the writers room loves James Ulster's serial killer, because Will can't get him out of his head.  Also, it appears Ulster had fans who wrote him in prison, and he's written them back, though two months dead.  They are doing some copycat killings for their hero, though it turns out Ulster had a child who he sent his diaries to, so all his thoughts and techniques are available to another generation.

One such killing gets the GBD and Will's attention, as the victim's name is Antonio Miranda, Will's uncles name.  Fearing for his uncle he goes to Puerto Rico to find and protect his uncle, but Ulster's heir is a few steps ahead.

High Potential   Pie In The Sky

Morgan and crew investigate the murder of a beloved astronaut who was killed by a pie in the face containing nerve agents.  Nice moments as Morgan's son mourns a hero and gets a souvenir from the spaceman's journeys.

War Machine

New on Netflix, this is my kind of movie!  I'm going to go ahead and use the terms rock em' sock em' action.  In my youth, I used to watch war movies on tv all the time, likely lots of John Wayne stuff, but anything with shiny new recruits getting run through the trenches in training and coming out combat weathered and tough, I loved that.

Here ,we have Alan Ritchison's Army Ranger recruit meaning to prove something to himself, and to go the distance in honor of his brother, who dreamed of the two of them being Rangers.  He's a little older than most and keeps to himself.  Doesn't want to be the team leader but is forced by his Training Officers to do just that.

The group has 24 hours to avoid being detected by "enemy" troops and they've a series of goals. The first is to find a downed aircraft and destroy it so the enemy can't get its tech.  When they find the aircraft, it doesn't look anything like they imagined, but they attach their charges and back up to let them explode.

Here begins the rock em' sock em' action part.  Oops. The craft they were supposed to find is a little farther away, but they've attached charges to and have activated an alien war machine.   It reacts right away, unfolding to stand and attack and follow them through the wilderness, tracking them relentlessly and implacably to wipe them all out.   Every time they think they've lost the thing, their compasses go wild and it's on them again.   Too good.

School Spirits  Season One

This show has been on my radar for awhile, because I like ghosts, and mysteries.  Maddie Nears is dead and not happy about it. She can't recall her death, and doesn't know who killed her.  There are other ghosts residing in Split River High School, some having been there as long as 60 years.  Everyone else knows exactly how they died.   Trapped on the school grounds, Maddie has to somehow find her killer, and there are plenty of suspects.

Luckily, unlike any of the other ghosts, she is able to talk to her still living best friend Simon.  With his help and the help of a few others along the way, this spooky show is great fun.

Doa On TV : The Rookie, Paradise, Best Medicine, High Potential, Will Trent, Scarpetta (Ep 1), The Pitt, Star Fleet Academy

I’ve been running behind watching my shows, and I think I’m caught up.  This might be a long post.  Take snack breaks when you need to.

The Rookie

Ep 9 Fun and Games

The team investigates a couple of very different robberies.  One is totally obnoxious, as the improv prone cast of a tv show can’t stop speaking in voices and altering their expressions as they imitate the robbers who stole from them.  Every one of them is awful in their attempts to be clever and amusing.   The second robbery is committed by two girls and a third party who they won’t name, even when one of the girls dies from injuries sustained in the robbery.

Ep 10 His Name was Martin

Nolan, Harper and Miles investigate the disappearance of a toxic clean up team of 20 sent to get a former psychiatric hospital ready for demolition.  There’s no cell service in the area (unexplained but ratchets things up).   Add in a bumbling, camera wielding Dash, a kid who has taken a liking to Nolan, and gets a ride along.

I personally am glued to my seat in terror anytime there’s a chase through an abandoned psychiatric hospital.  The toxic cleanup team has all gone mad, and they run through the hospital and grounds in packs chasing our heroes.  They are described as zombies at one point, but they aren’t eating anyone, so nope, not zombies.  They are just incredibly fast and very violent.

Tossed in at the end of the episode, Lucy and Celina arrive at the facility, get separated, and Lucy fights off one of the crazies, not seeing another creeping up behind her.  She had a violent fight with the first person, and is injured already, so when the second person pushes a knife towards her chest, she turns it on him in desperation and he’s killed, leaving her battered, bruised and numbed.  In shock.  Nobody seems to see how traumatized she is, and they give her space and tell her she’ll be ok, which she clearly isn’t.

Also! Wesley finds a client in his office at night when he’s working late, who we've see has mental issues, who is stabbing himself repeatedly in the leg with a large glass shard, and he needs to talk him down.

Paradise The Mailman

We see what happened with Xavier's wife Teri in the years since the tsunamis.  She’s fallen in with a group who are in a rather small fallout shelter inside a post office.  The mailman in question falls for Teri and builds the radio she uses to try to contact Xavier.  The survivors were handpicked for the skills they can contribute, though Teri is an expert in mushrooms. Another unlikely member is a young boy that Gary, the Mailman, saw on his route, hungry and neglected by his drug addled parents.  Teri bonds instantly with Bean.

Gary explains to Xavier how the time has passed for the survivors, and comes to the present day where he says a group of armed men came and took Teri and the other members away, leaving him behind.  He can lead Xavier to the convoy where he thinks everyone was taken.

Xavier listens carefully, and plans to use a bomb to distract/disrupt the convoy who appear to be guarding some thing so he can get Teri back.   My thought is they are guarding Teri, Bean and the others from Gary, who shot his friend Ennis in cold blood to keep him from telling Teri the group is friendly and going to Colorado.

Next weeks episode is titled Jane, who is an assassin character in the bunker I don’t like at all and don’t want to know about.  Hopefully there’s more about Xavier and Gary, and please watch your back, Xavier, Gary’s right behind you.

Best Medicine Port Wenn-ings and a Funeral

Never a dull moment in Port Wenn. It’s time for the annual bird migration over port Wenn, and two dotty old sisters impinge on a bird watching expedition between Martin and Louisa.  One of the two is acting very oddly, and when she flaps her wings and leaps forward off the cliff where everyone’s bird watching, it’s a shock.  She has left commands for a week of funeral celebrations for herself that include a reading of her poetry. We find that Martin’s aunt has been under the thumb of the two sisters for decades and she can hardly contain her relief that one of them is gone.

High Potential    If You Come For The Queen

It’s detective Daphne’s episode as she takes the lead in an investigation of the attempted murder of her mentor Dottie at a massage parlor.  Oof! How vulnerable is a person under a towel with their face in some donut thing.  Too creepy.

Ava is called out by online class mates for getting into a special arts program because of her race, and Daphne offers advice there, as she’s struggling herself with not wanting to move forward in her career, as she thinks it will be a lifelong battle.

Will Trent  You’re Only As Sick As Your Secrets

Sorority boys are being stripped and killed, with tape over their mouths with words like Justice and Integrity written on them.    A nicely twisted plot for this one.

Angie and Seth attend a baby preparation class with a new instructor who shows them all the ways their babies are going to end up dead via parental carelessness, terrifying Seth.

Scarpetta  Bridge of Time Part 1

I first read Postmortem in 1995, and it was the catalyst for my becoming a huge mystery reader ever since then.   At some point I stopped reading the series, but purchased Autopsy when it came out and I haven’t read it yet.   The Prime show is split between two time periods, one covering the book Postmortem, the other in the present covering the book Autopsy.

I was surprised by many character arcs in the present, I mean yikes! Marino married to Kay’s sister Dorothy?  Kay married to Wesley?  Lucy mourning her dead wife by spending all day with an AI version of her on multiple screens?   Dorothy and Kay constantly fighting?  Why don’t I recall Kay swearing so much?

Anyway, the mystery part was good, very intriguing that the current case makes Scarpetta and Marino think maybe they got the wrong guy all of those years ago.  The actress portraying Kay’s younger self is incredible.  At first I thought they used anti-aging technology on Nicole Kidman.   Rose  McEwen, wow.

 The Pitt 4 pm

The water slide disaster wasn’t a mass casualty event, but there is plenty going on.  Dr Mohan has an anxiety attack that she thinks might be a heart attack and Robbie has no sympathy for her at all.  Lots of people are starting to crack under the pressure of this day.

One of the water park victims had her leg sheared off in her accident, and of course it’s Ogilvie whose task it is to hang onto the severed leg.  He completely bumbles the job, in every way.

Dr King, back from her traumatizing deposition, finds her sister Becca has a uterine infection from “having lots and lots of sex” causing Mel to have the most lost look possible on her face.

Did you know a foot could be “ungloved”?

Starfleet Academy    Rubincon

In the last episode of season one,  Nus Braka televises and transmits a trial against the Federation represented by Nahla Ake with the judge, jury and executioner role going to Caleb’s mother Anisha Mir.   Everyone is quite impassioned and the trial is well done, even Braka’s childhood memory of Starfleet destroying his home planet when he was a child.

On the Athena, all the cadets are at battle stations, with instructor Jett Reno giving them instruction, and also making them think and solve the problems at hand, such as how to find Braka and take the wall of mines surrounding Federation space down without exploding them.

The Doctor, who was able to integrate himself into the ship computer and make it look like the Athena was destroyed, comes back out of the computer warped and garbled.  He has a solution to try for the mines, but can’t speak a single sentence that makes sense.

All in all a strong first season.  It was better by far than I expected from previews, and I’ve been entertained each week.  It has all the bones of a good Star Trek series.

DOA On TV: The Rookie, Will Trent, Best Medicine, The Pitt, Starfleet Academy, The Night Agent, Rockford Files Reboot, The Brave Pilot

The Rookie  Baja

I am no fan of the Lucy undercover episodes.  She’s just too soft a character to be able to lie and be tough.  In this episode they have her paired in an operation with Harper, who spent a long time undercover and who can do anything.  Not a good comparison.

Will Trent   Call Paul

Another serial killer episode.  I really disliked Will finding himself in the mind of the killer and enjoying the kills.

Best Medicine   There Might Be Blood

Port Wenn, festival capital of the world, hosts their annual Blood Factory event.  This town is crazy.  There’s an annual event wherein they celebrate an awful sounding horror novel written by a local author.  There are re-enactments of scenes from the book, and problematically for Doc Best, there are copious amounts of fake blood.  He thinks his blood phobia will not kick in because he knows it’s not real, but his body reacts as if it is.

The Pitt 1pm

As always, there are many little moments that add up to my being surprised each week when the screen goes to black for the credits.

Langdon tries to apologize to Robbie, and Robbie says I want you out of my ER.  This destroys Langdon’s confidence for the rest of the hour.

Dr Al-Hashimi continues to act as if she’s in charge already, though she has another moment where she gets a one thousand yard stare, and then calls for an urgent appointment with a neurologist or a shrink?  It’s not clear, but something is very off.

Santos continues to ignore a deaf patient who has been waiting to be examined for hours, even though an in person interpreter has been found and is on site.  She just hasn’t the patience to deal with not being able to ask the patient her questions directly for some reason.  This is making me so angry.  Any other staff member would have found a way to help this woman.

The best thing about the episode is Dr Abbott charging into the ER in full SWAT gear, a volunteer position he’s taken.  He’s a wild but competent doctor, and I’m hoping he is the one to take over when Robbie goes on sabbatical.

We find out why the other hospital has shut down services.

Starfleet Academy   Ko’Zeine

A lackluster episode wherein there’s a holiday and all cadets are expected to leave the facility for a four day vacation.  Caleb of course won’t go, and to his surprise, Genesis ditches her family vacation time to try to get into her academy files.  The ever unlikeable Darem is kidnapped by his betrothed since childhood bride, and Jay-Den follows him through a portal, thinking he needs a rescue.

Night Agent

In Istanbul, Peter works to find and bring to safety Jay Batra, a numbers guy who uncovered corruption in his organization and who is coveted by The Information Broker from last season.  I’ve only watched the first three episodes, but it’s great and so intense!

Doc and High Potential were not on this week and return March 3rd.

The Rockford Files Reboot

In exciting news, Davide Boreanz will be starring in a re-boot of The Rockford Files.  Mom watched the show and I didn’t, but my love of James Garner goes back to the original Maverick TV series.  Can’t see Boreanz as Garner but I’m willing to give it a try.

New Pilot for Emily Deschanel

I watched all 12 seasons of Bones last year for the first time, then immediately re-watched season one.  I didn’t write about it, but it is one of my favorite shows ever.  I miss it terribly!  Now, Emily Deschanel, who played Temperance Brennan so brilliantly (alongside David Boreanz’s Seeley Booth)  will be starring in an untitled pilot that sounds perfect:

Emily Deschanel to Star in NBC Pilot From Dean Georgaris, John Fox

Please make it so, and may both series be successful and long running.

DOA On TV: Tiny Tidbits: The Rookie, Doc, Best Medicine, Will Trent, The Pitt, Starfleet Academy

The Rookie Burn 4 Love

The Rookie, formerly one of the many Tuesday night shows has moved to Monday nights.  I watch it on Wednesdays though, with the usual Tuesday lineup.

This week featured sweet Valentine's moments, a curse which shouldn't have worked but seemed to be quite devastating, and a romantic pair who were causing small Swan Lake themed fires.  As if that weren't a busy enough episode, the ending was positively explosive.

Doc Trust

Poker, transplants and Sonya & TJ snooping into their boss Joan's personal business, more memories from the past for Amy, and the truly awful return of Dr Miller as part of a settlement with the hospital.  Everyone knows that he tried to hide his actions that led to the death of a patient, how's that going to go?

Best Medicine  Eyewitness Blues

Port Wenn's annual Blueberry festival is covered for a tiny audience by Elaine, with poor Doctor Best wielding a camera for her.  It puts him right into the thick of things, though, after he refused to be a judge in the blueberry pie baking contest.  The resident's are out for blueberry glory and are unusually ruthless as they compete.  Though I claim I could drop this show at any time, when I'm doing my Tuesday night show watch, I watch Doc first, then Best Medicine second every single time.

Will Trent     You're Not That Person Anymore

Part two of a set wherein poor Faith finally finds a really great guy who she thinks she might love, though they haven't known each other long.  Unfortunately for her, Malcolm is part of a gang that has been robbing banks while in costumes.

Angie is the one who isn't that person anymore.  She's about to have a baby and a good life she doesn't think she deserves.  Luckily Will, who has known her forever, convinces her she deserves all the good things.  Spoiler alert, Angie plans a surprise wedding ceremony in the place where she and Seth met, officiated by her longtime friend Franklin, with no one other than a bicyclist who happened by as their witness.  (sniff) It was so lovely.

The Pitt 12 pm

High noon on the Fourth of July and nothing is slowing down.  The episode focuses quite a bit on the nursing staff, and the many roles they play.  The alcoholic patient Louie, who has been an ER visitor for a long time and is known by everyone, didn't make it.  Everyone is affected, and there's a scene where head nurse Dana shows a new nurse how to clean and prepare a body for possible viewing by friends or relatives that is so touching.

Santos gets busted by a surgeon from upstairs after two AI related charting errors are caught and questioned.  I'm glad nobody died.

Starfleet Academy   Come, Let's Away

Excellent episode.  The cadets are on a training mission at a space graveyard.  They have one hour to bring a damaged ship called the Miyazaki online.  Cadets are in sets, some are on the bridge, some go to the ship.  65% is the best anyone has done over the years trying to complete the task.

Almost immediately, a hostile group of aliens called The Furies surrounds the ship and the Athena, boards the Miyazaki and takes the cadets and their mentor captive.  They're savage and are cannibals. While the mentor sacrifices himself, the cadets make their way to the bridge and try to defend it hoping the Athena will rescue them. Sam is able to interface with the ship and bring it more fully online.  They use a comic to show the confused ship computer what happened to her crew, very cool.

Back on the Athena, the Betazoid Tarima, who can reach Caleb telepathically, helps the cadets prepare to be rescued once they get the singularity online.

With information from the villainous Nus Braka, she's able to be on the ship in real time and, having pulled out her ability dampener, she destroys the furies.

I don't like ongoing seemingly all powerful villains, and I don't like Braka.

DOA on TV for the Week of January 18-24 A Bit of Everything

It has been an exhausting week.  I watched all of my regular shows, and one new one that I haven't much to say about.  Unlike my usual babbling self, I haven't much to say about anything.  Here are my shows, keep in mind three CBS shows don't return till late February, so, yo.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

Sorry, wasn’t as charmed as I hoped then I fell asleep on and off. Think I will let this one go.

Terrific Tuesday Shows

The Rookie

Back in good form with a mix of humor and a main story where a man is picked up by Nolan for sleeping in a community center. It’s the first time this seeming vagrant's prints have been run in years and he turns out to be a serial killer.

Best Medicine

I’m still engaged with this gentle comedy.  Martin Klunes, the OG Doc Martin was not in this week’s episode but Martin did some excellent doctor detection on a high schooler who had brittle bones.

Doc

Amy and the FBI traced the hospital email hacks and audio impersonations to a young doctor and her brother who felt Amy was the reason for their dad’s suicide.

High Potential

Captain Wagner, the new guy in town continues to annoy just about everyone and Soto tells him off.

Will Trent

The show just keeps getting better and better.  Every character has so much going on.  Good thing they have Will, who powers through his own problems to save the day.

Fallout

The show continues to twist the stories in on themselves.  The Ghoul is rescued, never fear.  Vault 33 is on the road to perdition lead by Reggie.  Lucy attempts to dominate her dad.

Starfleet Academy

An excellent episode with the recruits competing with each other to lead their team in what must be a giant holodeck full of bad things, and an all out prank war with the War College.

The Pitt

It’s only 9 am and the place is swinging.  I enjoy the story lines that continue week to week and the loads of new stuff that just gets dumped on the staff.

The Closer

I'm up to season 5.  Still love the show and it's characters.  I'm not happy they shuffled Irene Daniels off of the show, with no real explanation.  They should have given her more to do, not less.  They have added Captain Sharon Raydor to the show, an Internal Affairs character who is awful with her breathy voice and her attempts to take over every single case.  I'm aware she takes over Major Crimes when The Closer completes season 7, but gack, I won't be watching that.
