Book Notes October 15, 2026

Welcome to bookshelf moving week on the blog.  We adopted a wonderful little cat! I don’t mind her exploring at all, but right by my two level stairs is a tiny ledge and a jump to a cabinet with no good way down.

I’ve emptied it out and moved two bookcases out of the way so it can sit here.

The book cases are now across the room.

I have more books than shelf space and this has been a problem for awhile.

Books I’ve read but can’t shelve.

Books I haven’t read with no spot either.

I’m finally bringing up two cubby type shelves from downstairs which should hold all of the loose books until I buy more.

One under a window so the kitten can safely look out. One in the dangerous top of the stairs spot so the kitten can hop up but the shelf will provide a lower level for getting safely up and down.

We need my son to come on the weekend to move that heavy glass cabinet without tragedy.

Wish us luck!

Five Things Friday September 6, 2024

Perhaps your timelines and newsfeeds are filled with Halloween lately.  The Christmas people are gearing up, though so expect more of that here.

One:  Old suitcases are in fashion now, usually in an appealing stack.  It’s fun to see them used for vignettes such as this too.

Two: On a Scale of Cat, tonight I’m a four. How is your day going?

Three:  Conspiracy theorists, unite!

Four:  They are never getting all of that in the fridge.

Five:  You shouldn’t leave them, you know you shouldn’t.

Five Things Friday June 7, 2024

Yay for the return of an old meme. The original intent of Five Things Friday I’m pretty sure was/is to note five good/inspiring things that happened each week. For some reason this perkiness bugged me and I couldn’t maintain it.

In this version, I just plink out there any five things from the week. So easy.

One:  We are cat sitting and dog sitting my son’s pets this week.  What a crew.

Two: Year Of The Worm

It has been an insanely wet spring. I’ve been digging in the garden quite a bit anyway. So. Many. Worms! I’m pretty sure they’re all just earth worms, but I’m paranoid about the new super threat Jumping Worms. Eek. How can I tell if the ones I’m digging are regular or Jumping without looking at them all too closely. So gross.

Then, there appear a bunch of bright green worms. Eeew, they’re Cabbage Worms. Drawn by my innocent Purple Broccoli seedlings, is likely. I tossed my seedlings in the trash in a trice. Good thing I haven’t gotten around to planting radishes, nasturtiums, or alyssum. Nas-tee.

No worm portraits will be provided, sorry.

Three: An Ocean of Slobber

Remember the movie Beethoven where the dog shakes himself and there’s slobber everywhere?

I’ve always had beagles. And carpet. I didn’t know my beagle slobbered, but he’s a fountain. Then I adopt a big fuzzy angel of a dog who really has a traveling pool wherever she goes. Add my son’s dog this week. We’re floating ….

Four: I loved this show.

Five:I have the bricks, I have the paint.

Sunday Puzzles: Our First Jigsaw

It's week five in our puzzle rotation.  I hope I've found a puzzle maker that will allow you to play a jigsaw puzzle here on DOA Central.  I'm having trouble with this so if you don't see a cat puzzle below the cat picture, well, enjoy the cat :)

Caturday!

While working on this post I thought that for me the iconic dog is Snoopy the beagle.  How about an iconic cat?   I think it's Morris, the 9 Lives Cat.
