Book Notes March 8, 2022

 

This is making the rounds.  Were there no novel reading men letting the books improperly fire their imaginations, keeping them from the work they must do?

After reading Janice Hallett’s The Twyford Code, based somewhat on Enid Blyton’s novels, I was pleased to see a page dedicated to the author which seems rather fun.

 

Here are a few books that looked intriguing to me this week.  I haven't looked up all the reviews yet.

Speaking of new books, The Rap Sheet Blog does a Revue of Reviewers with links to reviews of lots of the newest mystery and crime titles.  I love when these come out.  The blog also has the largest list of mystery blogs I've seen, if you're looking for something new to read.

Book Notes October 4, 2021

 Novel Suspects shares the Highest Rated Stephen King Novels "according to Goodreads".

Of the five they list, two would be on my personal favorites list.   The Shining and The Stand.  Neither have been well adapted for film or television, in my opinion.  The novels themselves are great, intense, scary books.

The Shining

Pet Sematary

My other favorites:

The collections Different Seasons and Night Shift, The Tommyknockers, It, The Dead Zone, The Dark Half, Doctor Sleep.

Though the list is from 2019, Murder & Mayhems Historical Mystery list has a few novels for me to jot down in my ever growing Consider Reading This List.

The dire predictions of book shortages and supply line problems goes on.  Rose Levy Beranbaum's The Cookie Bible now has a publication date of fall 2022.  Yikes.
