The English Garden: Why Terrariums Are Back In Fashion

I've tried many types of gardens over the years, and have always admired terrariums, but never had one.   There's a little bit of a "ship in a bottle" appeal to them, I think.

After reading the article below, I understand the idea behind closing those poor little plants in without any air, but it still bothers me a bit, and I'd want to take the lid of for them now and then.

I do love glass jars, perhaps if I find just the right one, I'll give this a try.

One HUGE good thing I can see with these is that our cats, who think we have houseplants as their personal salad bar, would be able to see the plants, but not get at the plants.

In The Mailbox: Oakes Daylilies

I've been ordering from Oakes for years.  The plants that come from them are huge.  Daylilies can be a very addictive enthusiasm.  The variations in color, and patterns, and things like ruffled edges...  Reliably in July when most are in bloom, I, like many, get "daylily fever" and I want to buy lots more for my garden.  Here's a good place to start.

How many is too many?

I am down to only six distinct gardens!

In The Mailbox: Territorial Seed Company

I'm giving a post to each of the new seed and plant catalogs as they arrive.  I've scanned the covers and what's new for 2020 for each to give you an idea of what is offered.

There's a link to the company site in each article (scheduled posts so there's something new each day).   You'll also find links on the sidebar.

I'm including here companies I've ordered from myself and liked.
Happy Dreaming!

Welcome to DOA In The Garden!

Hello, and welcome!   I'm giving my love of gardening it's own space in the cyberverse.  January truly is the beginning of gardening season, and catalogs are arriving.

Seed companies are releasing pictures of the dreamiest plants you can imagine, that you can grow right in your garden.

Plant companies, many of whom are buried under ice and snow just as you may be, are also pulling out the stops on what varieties new and old you should add to your yard.

One of the good and bad things about gardens is that there is an attrition rate for your plants and shrubs and trees that create spots for new glorious plants.   You do indeed always have a spot for new plants.

Librariandoa 2.0

I moved to a WordPress blog for DOA last December.  Too much spam here,  (looking at you, weirdo who got her husband back after supernaturally curing his herpes, ick) plus Blogger eats comments, plus they never fix or update anything. Silly Blogger.

You've plenty to catch up from this year on 2.0, plus fall and winter are prime blogging seasons.  Poof!
