Review: Leviathan Falls by James S A Corey

In this ninth and final novel of the Expanse series, the Rocinante is pursued through the universe by an implacable enemy.

Teresa, daughter of "emperor god" Winston Duarte is a crewman on the Roci.  Duarte himself, risen from the dead and transformed by a protomolecule, is also being pursued by Laconias dwindling but determined forces.

Laconian scientists and science teams everywhere race to find out what happened to the creators of the ring gates.  Meanwhile, the forces that wiped out every single being among the ring creators test ways to wipe out humanity as well.

Jim, Naomi, Alex and Amos, the Rocinante crew from the beginning, are older and irrevocably changed by the years and their experiences and actions.  Somehow, as always, the hope for any future for humanity rests with them.

After nine books, I needed the last book in the series to have something very much like a happy, hopeful ending.  These characters more than deserved a good ending. Leviathan Falls comes very close.
