Librariandoa's Saturday Puzzles A Fallen Phrase for 2 28 26

Here's a quote from Bartlett's Familiar Quotations.  A simple one, but I found it irresistible.   Enjoy!  The Puzzles answer will be posted Saturday March 7, 2026 at 7 am.

Librariandoa's Saturday Puzzles An Answer Key for the 2 21 26 Rebus

Doesn't this sound vaguely like Gandalf?  It is a quote from our previous puzzle source book Pendergast The Beginning.   I love traveling, and so does Mr DOA, yet we can be a bit skwinky (made that up) when traveling together these days.  If you enlarge, you can see hints for any some of the icons you may not have gotten.

Mary's Recipes Week 14

Oof! I zoned yesterday and missed this post.  Never fear, here are the recipes for this week. It could just be me, but I found myself thinking "should I create a Gross Meter for recipes that are, well, gross?"   You be the judge.

DOA On TV: The Rookie, Will Trent, Best Medicine, The Pitt, Starfleet Academy, The Night Agent, Rockford Files Reboot, The Brave Pilot

The Rookie  Baja

I am no fan of the Lucy undercover episodes.  She’s just too soft a character to be able to lie and be tough.  In this episode they have her paired in an operation with Harper, who spent a long time undercover and who can do anything.  Not a good comparison.

Will Trent   Call Paul

Another serial killer episode.  I really disliked Will finding himself in the mind of the killer and enjoying the kills.

Best Medicine   There Might Be Blood

Port Wenn, festival capital of the world, hosts their annual Blood Factory event.  This town is crazy.  There’s an annual event wherein they celebrate an awful sounding horror novel written by a local author.  There are re-enactments of scenes from the book, and problematically for Doc Best, there are copious amounts of fake blood.  He thinks his blood phobia will not kick in because he knows it’s not real, but his body reacts as if it is.

The Pitt 1pm

As always, there are many little moments that add up to my being surprised each week when the screen goes to black for the credits.

Langdon tries to apologize to Robbie, and Robbie says I want you out of my ER.  This destroys Langdon’s confidence for the rest of the hour.

Dr Al-Hashimi continues to act as if she’s in charge already, though she has another moment where she gets a one thousand yard stare, and then calls for an urgent appointment with a neurologist or a shrink?  It’s not clear, but something is very off.

Santos continues to ignore a deaf patient who has been waiting to be examined for hours, even though an in person interpreter has been found and is on site.  She just hasn’t the patience to deal with not being able to ask the patient her questions directly for some reason.  This is making me so angry.  Any other staff member would have found a way to help this woman.

The best thing about the episode is Dr Abbott charging into the ER in full SWAT gear, a volunteer position he’s taken.  He’s a wild but competent doctor, and I’m hoping he is the one to take over when Robbie goes on sabbatical.

We find out why the other hospital has shut down services.

Starfleet Academy   Ko’Zeine

A lackluster episode wherein there’s a holiday and all cadets are expected to leave the facility for a four day vacation.  Caleb of course won’t go, and to his surprise, Genesis ditches her family vacation time to try to get into her academy files.  The ever unlikeable Darem is kidnapped by his betrothed since childhood bride, and Jay-Den follows him through a portal, thinking he needs a rescue.

Night Agent

In Istanbul, Peter works to find and bring to safety Jay Batra, a numbers guy who uncovered corruption in his organization and who is coveted by The Information Broker from last season.  I’ve only watched the first three episodes, but it’s great and so intense!

Doc and High Potential were not on this week and return March 3rd.

The Rockford Files Reboot

In exciting news, Davide Boreanz will be starring in a re-boot of The Rockford Files.  Mom watched the show and I didn’t, but my love of James Garner goes back to the original Maverick TV series.  Can’t see Boreanz as Garner but I’m willing to give it a try.

New Pilot for Emily Deschanel

I watched all 12 seasons of Bones last year for the first time, then immediately re-watched season one.  I didn’t write about it, but it is one of my favorite shows ever.  I miss it terribly!  Now, Emily Deschanel, who played Temperance Brennan so brilliantly (alongside David Boreanz’s Seeley Booth)  will be starring in an untitled pilot that sounds perfect:

Emily Deschanel to Star in NBC Pilot From Dean Georgaris, John Fox

Please make it so, and may both series be successful and long running.

Librariandoa's Saturday Puzzles A Rebus for 2 21 26

He we go, it's Rebus time!  My usual Rebus generator has a pop up box all of a sudden that asks you to watch an ad to get 24 hour access to the puzzle maker.  Ya, no.  I clicked on A BAD LINK a week or so ago, and suddenly my PC was screaming at me.  I think not.  The Festisite Rebus maker uses larger pictograms, so it is easier to use when the Rebus source is short.  Blah, blah.   The answer key will be up February 28th at 7 am

This rebus is a quote from a recently read book.  Enjoy!

Winter Sowing

Ta da, after decades of saving milk jugs to sow winter seeds and never using them, I have three, count em, three sets of seeds in jugs and outside.  I had trouble cutting the line around the jug in a straight line. I forgot to cover the seeds in the first one. Wider duct tape would have been nice. This could work!

Librariandoa's Saturday Puzzles An Answer Key for the 2 14 26 Word Search

Sir Chompers was a huge alligator being fed by a barkeep, FYI.  Nice scene.

Mary's Recipes Week 13

When you move back up north and miss your cactus friends, what to do?

Most of the recipes in Mary's box look so good!  This week, only the Swedish Meatballs are something I would eat.  I appreciate the small amount of Allspice used, that stuff can be so overpowering.

DOA On TV: Tiny Tidbits: The Rookie, Doc, Best Medicine, Will Trent, The Pitt, Starfleet Academy

The Rookie Burn 4 Love

The Rookie, formerly one of the many Tuesday night shows has moved to Monday nights.  I watch it on Wednesdays though, with the usual Tuesday lineup.

This week featured sweet Valentine's moments, a curse which shouldn't have worked but seemed to be quite devastating, and a romantic pair who were causing small Swan Lake themed fires.  As if that weren't a busy enough episode, the ending was positively explosive.

Doc Trust

Poker, transplants and Sonya & TJ snooping into their boss Joan's personal business, more memories from the past for Amy, and the truly awful return of Dr Miller as part of a settlement with the hospital.  Everyone knows that he tried to hide his actions that led to the death of a patient, how's that going to go?

Best Medicine  Eyewitness Blues

Port Wenn's annual Blueberry festival is covered for a tiny audience by Elaine, with poor Doctor Best wielding a camera for her.  It puts him right into the thick of things, though, after he refused to be a judge in the blueberry pie baking contest.  The resident's are out for blueberry glory and are unusually ruthless as they compete.  Though I claim I could drop this show at any time, when I'm doing my Tuesday night show watch, I watch Doc first, then Best Medicine second every single time.

Will Trent     You're Not That Person Anymore

Part two of a set wherein poor Faith finally finds a really great guy who she thinks she might love, though they haven't known each other long.  Unfortunately for her, Malcolm is part of a gang that has been robbing banks while in costumes.

Angie is the one who isn't that person anymore.  She's about to have a baby and a good life she doesn't think she deserves.  Luckily Will, who has known her forever, convinces her she deserves all the good things.  Spoiler alert, Angie plans a surprise wedding ceremony in the place where she and Seth met, officiated by her longtime friend Franklin, with no one other than a bicyclist who happened by as their witness.  (sniff) It was so lovely.

The Pitt 12 pm

High noon on the Fourth of July and nothing is slowing down.  The episode focuses quite a bit on the nursing staff, and the many roles they play.  The alcoholic patient Louie, who has been an ER visitor for a long time and is known by everyone, didn't make it.  Everyone is affected, and there's a scene where head nurse Dana shows a new nurse how to clean and prepare a body for possible viewing by friends or relatives that is so touching.

Santos gets busted by a surgeon from upstairs after two AI related charting errors are caught and questioned.  I'm glad nobody died.

Starfleet Academy   Come, Let's Away

Excellent episode.  The cadets are on a training mission at a space graveyard.  They have one hour to bring a damaged ship called the Miyazaki online.  Cadets are in sets, some are on the bridge, some go to the ship.  65% is the best anyone has done over the years trying to complete the task.

Almost immediately, a hostile group of aliens called The Furies surrounds the ship and the Athena, boards the Miyazaki and takes the cadets and their mentor captive.  They're savage and are cannibals. While the mentor sacrifices himself, the cadets make their way to the bridge and try to defend it hoping the Athena will rescue them. Sam is able to interface with the ship and bring it more fully online.  They use a comic to show the confused ship computer what happened to her crew, very cool.

Back on the Athena, the Betazoid Tarima, who can reach Caleb telepathically, helps the cadets prepare to be rescued once they get the singularity online.

With information from the villainous Nus Braka, she's able to be on the ship in real time and, having pulled out her ability dampener, she destroys the furies.

I don't like ongoing seemingly all powerful villains, and I don't like Braka.

Librariandoa's Saturday Puzzles: A Word Search for 2 14 26

This puzzle is from a new book I've read recently called Pendergast The Beginning.  I love a good origin story.  This book had so many great words!  The answer key appears February 21st at 7 am.

Happy Valentines Day!

Here’s my small collection of Valentines themed decor. The holiday maintains a simple charm. Treat yourself to chocolate and place a few seed orders. There ya go.

Librariandoa's Saturday Puzzles An Answer Key for the Valentine's Crossword

Wasn't that sweet?  It's a nice hot pizza for Mr DOA and myself today, ordered from our favorite local pizzeria.  Yum!

Mary's Recipes Week 12

This week the cards move from the last frostings into main dishes.  The Golden Mac N' Meat almost sounds good.  The Frosting Starter is interesting. It's ready to be colored, but also can be added to to make other frosting flavors.

From The Archives: Folks From the People I Can't Identify Folder

Last post of the day!  Wasn't this fun?  See you in February 2027 for the 19th Anniversary edition, wherein I'll plan ahead and have 19 posts crammed into the day somehow.  Otherwise, back to the usual posts.

Here are photos I've scanned and I have been unable to identify the folks pictured. I noticed though that while I was looking through these tonight, there are some pictures of people I can identify who can now go in their own folders. None of these are those!

From The Archives: DOA Minifigs

From back in the day when I created numerous "minifig" versions of DOA.  They are unofficially Lego mes.   Tell no one.

DOA In The Garden A Pink Flowers Collage

That's it. This winter needs to go away so I can find flowers like the ones below for my garden.  I'd like one of each of these.  These were all in my garden, but none are still around.  The thrill of the hunt!

DOA On TV: The Pitt 11 am, Fallout: The Strip, Veronica Mars Pilot

The Pitt 11 am

An action packed hour as always!  So much has happened already, and it's still in the morning hours of July 4th, which is known to be a busy terrible day in Emergency Rooms.

A few things stick out from the episode.  One is Santos, desperately trying to keep up with her charting under threat by incoming Dr Al-Hashimi of getting a repeat second year if she doesn't improve.  I struggle to like Santos.  She's so cruel to everyone, even as she is a skilled physician in the making.  Here, though, I hear her say that she usually stays "a couple of hours" after her shift to do her charting, and I know the shift is 15 hours.  That's incredible.  I'm wondering if under pressure Santos will use Al-Hashimi's AI to do her charting in desperation, and something bad happens because it wasn't caught and corrected by an experienced human.  Such as Santos herself.

There's a prisoner under guard and handcuffed to his gurney, full of terrible injuries, and the staff doesn't know how to be able to help him as they would anyone.  The hospital which has been shut down without a known reason must usually have cases of prisoners.  What else might the day hold?

Ogilvie has taken Whitaker's place this season in getting sprayed with grotesque fluids and substances, it seems.  Oof.

Fallout The Strip  Ep 8 Season 2

I wish this weren't the last episode.  There should be at least ten episodes each season.  Wrapping things up!

Lucy is betrayed by her father who can't have her messing up his experiments.  He and a goon plan to forcibly insert a miniaturized control device in her neck.  Lucky for her the Ghoul is on the same floor passing by and he shoots the goon, then plugs her father in a cheek (lower level), letting Lucy decide his fate.

Her plan is to find out what he's really up to, then she's going to activate the device she has placed in his neck.   Before she can do that, he pulls out a controller of his own and hits the red button, changing his own behavior and activating an army of his R and D subjects for an unknown centuries ago planned purpose.

Maximus, fresh from fighting enough Deathclaws to damage his NCR armor, was rescued at the last by the NCR.  We don't see how many troups they have, as they come around a corner. I fear they’re a tiny rag tag band, and the Legion is marching on Vegas with a new Caesar and they look like a huge force.

Maximus steps out onto Lucy's scene just at the right moment, and it's the best scene of the show where they meet and they hug the one person each of them knows is a good person. After all they’ve seen and done.

The Ghoul finds his family's cryo chambers but of course they aren't there.  There's a postcard for Colorado in Barb's vault though saying Colorado was a good idea.  We get a sneak look in the past as Coop is arrested by the UnAmericans committee posse. He takes the shot so Barb and Janey can be safe.  We know now Barb was a pawn of both Vault Tec and the Enclave, so she wasn't the monster Coop thought she was. (Sniff)    He's off to the mountains to find her with Dogmeat by his side.

Norm!  I hoped Ma June would step in and save him, but Bud's Buds, those empty little vessels, release the Radroaches from an elevator shaft, accidentally,  and only Norm and Claudia survive the munching.

In a Post Credits scene, a bloody Quintus vows he's now Quintus the Destroyer. He has the plans brought to him to build a super giant robot.  Yup.

Filming for season three is supposed to begin this summer.

Veronica Mars Pilot

Newly on Netflix is Veronica Mars, a much vaunted teen mystery TV show.   After seeing Kristin Bell on The Good Place (a show I liked, but her character was a scrounge), I just didn't know if I could watch her in another show.

Ha!  She's excellent as it turns out. Smart, snarky, trod on badly by life so far but not giving in or up.  My kind of girl.

She's the daughter of the town's Private Detective.  He used to be the sheriff, and she used to run with the cool crowd.  Then her best friend was murdered, her dad went after the wrong guy, her mom turned into a drunk who left town, she was roofied at a party then raped.

She's got plenty of reason to be angry.  Even so, when a new guy is taped to a pole and pilloried, she cuts him down and reluctantly becomes his protector.

She involves herself in a case of her father's checking out a philandering spouse, doing surveillance as the man meets someone at a motel, taking photographs which she feels is her specialty.

The show is only three seasons, with maybe a fourth? There was some moving around of the show while it was being broadcast, so how much there is on Netflix remains to by seen by me.   I like the show, the mystery elements, and the main character.
