Star Trek Strange New Worlds: Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach

Pike and crew encounter a ship being attacked by another vessel which asks for help.  They successfully save the crew and passengers.  One of them is a child with his father.

The boy is quite young, but he is enhanced with technologies that give Dr. M'Benga hope that it could in some way help his beloved daughter who survives in the ship's medical pattern buffer while he travels through space hoping for a cure.

The planet Majalis isn't part of the Federation, and it won't share its medical or other scientific secrets with outsiders.

Even the presence of Pike's first love Alora, a woman he knew years ago, gets the Enterprise and M'Benga nowhere.

The little boy is due to become The First Servant, unknowingly sacrificing himself to save the rest of the citizens on Majalis.

Pike tries to stop the ceremony once he realizes the child's life will be sacrificed.

I of course hoped the boy would be saved, but he does becomes part of an elaborate machine.

Alora was played by Lindy Booth, another Librarians alumni.  So I had a bit of trouble seeing her as a siren from Pike's past, because in my mind she looks like this:

Obi-Wan Episode 4

Who needs the Death Star when you can break into impenetrable Fortress Inquisitorious in the middle of an ocean to rescue Leia?

Tala lands on the deck of the Fortress, in full Imperial uniform, and brazens her way in to find where Leia is being held.  Ben uses a bit of diving gear to come up through the bottom of the structure.

Leia is still being questioned by Reva, who runs out of patience pretty quickly and orders a bit of torture to refresh the child's memory.  Luckily Obi-Wan makes his way in, and they all get back out safely, though with a tracker in Leia's little droid Lola.

Let's hope they get the poor kid back to Alderan next episode.
