Reacher is a decorated veteran who comes to Margrave to satisfy his curiosity about a blues singer. He's charged with murder instead, and is then on a whirlwind tour of the local jail and prison.
Without saying much, he draws in both the good guys and the bad guys. Particularly the bad guys, in truth. In a prison fight he gouges a guys eye. He doesn't need a weapon. At 6' 5'' he is a weapon.
Oscar Finlay, chief detective in Margrave, can't decide if he wants to use Reacher's talents or keep him locked up. Policewoman Roscoe Conklin is on Reacher's side right away. It could be those biceps.
Reacher has a quirky sense of humor and no problem with beating anyone who thinks about beating on him. He pops out some Sherlockian observations, seemingly at odds with his appearance.
I've read just one Reacher novel, with our book group. Reacher seemed to me to be compassionate and protective to some, and incredibly violent to others. I can't recall the title, but he shot and killed just about every member of a local crime organization.
I was worried the TV series would have him stuck in one place for the series, as I know from the book discussion that he traveled everywhere. It appears each season will be in a new place, so that's good.
Malcolm Goodwin I loved in iZombie, what fun to see him here again as a detective.
Young Reacher was played by Maxwell Jenkins, who I loved in Lost in Space, the Netflix series.
Looking forward to the rest of the series.
