Traveling Tuesday 9/7/21

Our current beagle is the best traveler.  He doesn't mind riding in the car, even on trips that are two hours or more (longer surely, with last year's camping trip).  This is not like any beagle we've had before.

For our small day trips, we bring:

Water bowl and a bottle of water just for him.

Food bowl with dry food in a baggie.

Blankets and a pillow for him in the back seat.

Waste disposal bags.

Mr. Portable Beagle doesn't need much more for a longer trip.

Folding kennel (we found a nice soft sided one that includes a cushy liner).  Very easy to set up and take down. I'm pretty sure this is it:

Treats

Chew Toys

Food Puzzle in case he'd get bored, which he is not prone to.

A Tie out.  He'd follow his nose to trouble like any beagle, so no free roaming. Maybe when he's a bit older.

Dog Park

We're considering taking him to a local dog park this week.  We're never been to one and of course neither has he.  He's very shy of people, animals, baby buggies, runners, bikers, skateboarders.  We're talking everything.  It may be the way to get him to be less shy.

He lives with a golden retriever who ignores him and he her (unless they're stealing each other's treats).  The golden is also a rescue dog who has all of the same fears.

He's met my sister's Pitbull mix, a little shy on that one.

No problems at all with my sister in law's chihuahua.

We shall see how that goes.

Here are some blogs to read about traveling with your pet:

I came across the Dog Jaunt blog listed one day, and thought it had great advice and resources.
