Scamping

I want to recommend the  Scamp Owners International Forum site. Even if you don't have a Scamp, you can find or get an answer to just about any question you may have about Scamps here.  No question too large or small, these folks know and are willing to share all they know.

Here's an up to date site called Scampgrounds that gives lots of information and inspiration for your future Scamping trips.

Local Travels

We took Mr DOA's mom and her Bestie to the Pierz Oktoberfest (held at the end of August, to our surprise).

There was a large parade, events such as children's toy tractor pull and keg tossing.  We unfortunately couldn't make our way with ease to these events, as Mary's Bestie had a rough time on the grass with his walker.  Mary also had a bit of trouble with the uneven ground.

We of course managed to eat, cheese curds for me, a dumpling of some sort with cabbage for Mary, and the guys went for corn dogs.

We did some people watching then strolled over to the Bingo tent.  Nice and shady with seating.  I'm no giant bingo person, but I'll play with someone who really loves it as Mary does.

The unusual bingo cards were...leather? and had little windows to slide over the letters as they were called.  By chance they were from the church we'd visited a few weeks before.

Mary gave everyone names.  She's Mary Sunshine and my beloved is known as King Lizard.

Her Bestie is Rat Weasel and I am Cookie Wookie.  I like my name.

Dog Park Adventure

Our beagle isn't very good  about walking past large dogs while we're walking in the mornings.  He bays and twirls like a ballerina on his leash.

We've been trying to acclimate him more to other people and dogs on our Friday Adventures. I don't think it's working, but never give up, never surrender.

I read a bit of dog park etiquette.

Well, no my dog isn't a good match.   Still.

On high alert!  People and dogs seen nearby!

We figured we'd be there five minutes tops, with the dog pinned to my legs as he often is.

But no. We walked him in, and almost immediately we fell in with a man and his dog who go there every day, it seems.  He recommended from observing the beagle that we go ahead and take off his leash.  We did but not his harness.

At first he walked right along side us as if it were a common thing.

Then he got bold with his new friend and they chased each other a bit farther away.

We just walked around the sandy perimeter and he came and went following his pal.  He even made some new friends of large dogs, no fear at all.

He disappeared off the trail breifly but came right away when I called him.  I am so proud of this little dog.

He did a bit of play chasing at the end, he actually chased another dog.

Unfortunately on the way out a smallish dog not only chased him but was barking. Whoa.  Beags ran way out and found some friendlier dogs to hang out with.  He did come when I saw where he was and he saw me.  What a good boy.

We'll take him again, and take that harness off so he can run better. He's young and lightning fast when he wants to be.  We'll also be more prepared and have hats and water.
