I'm not the only one who is enthusiastic about the sequel to the Inheritance Games.
We find Avery still living at Hawthorne House, trying to navigate her feelings towards her sudden fortune and the proximity of the handsome Hawthorne men.
The mystery of Toby, who appears to be Avery's real father, and what exactly is hidden in the sealed off wing of the house that was Toby's own continues.
There's real hostility from some family and staff when Avery and the Hawthorne brothers get a sledge hammer and break down the brick walls sealing the entire wing off. Clues are found, left by Toby himself.
The game this time is unraveling all the clues and finding Toby. Why did he disappear? Why wasn't he in Avery's life till recently when he appeared in his guise as a homeless man?
What secret did Avery's mother have about Avery's birthday?
How is it that Avery's mom taught her problem solving in such a way that she rivals any Hawthorne in her skill? What connection to the Hawthornes did she have?
The Hawthorne daughters were also given a puzzle to solve upon the death of their father. Neither has been willing to work together or with anyone else to solve their joint mystery. Their puzzle depends on information they each have, though, and it can only be solved by them together.
The attacks on Avery continue. Someone still wants her dead. Perhaps more than one person.
The title page and cover have the phrase "An Inheritance Games Novel". I hope this means more to come.
